Solutions to Global Turbulence: Peace, Prosperity and Freedom
September 9, 2026

I am honored to participate in Session 8B: Strategies for Operationalizing Solutions to Global Turbulence, presenting Compass of Hope as one human-development dimension within a multidimensional response to global turbulence.

The focus: how cultivating capacities such as resilience, purpose, agency, relational intelligence, and ethical discernment can help people navigate profound change and contribute constructively to social transformation.

Compass of Hope began as a practical response to a time of profound disruption and has evolved into a broader developmental journey for cultivating the human capacities needed to navigate change and contribute to a flourishing future.

Bringing together insights from positive psychology, developmental psychology, contemplative practice, neuroscience, education, and wisdom traditions, Compass of Hope explores how capacities such as reflective awareness, resilience, agency, relational intelligence, ethical discernment, purpose, and contribution can be intentionally cultivated.

With contributions from 44 international voices, the book offers both a conceptual vision and a rich set of practices for personal growth, human development, and constructive participation in a changing world.

The Compass of Hope Educational Framework
A Developmental Architecture for Human Flourishing

Updated Edition in Development

The Framework translates the developmental journey of Compass of Hope into an educational architecture for intentionally cultivating capacities such as reflective awareness, agency, resilience, relational intelligence, ethical discernment, purpose, and contribution.

Person-Centered Foundations

Recent engagement with the work of Carl Rogers has illuminated substantial common ground between person-centered education and Compass of Hope. Rogers emphasized the conditions that release the learner's capacity for growth and becoming; Compass explores how these human capacities can be intentionally cultivated through a developmental educational journey.

Rogers envisioned the human being as a self-actualizing process of becoming—developing potentialities and creatively adapting to an ever-changing world.

From Personal Development to Social Transformation

Lasting social change requires more than new policies, institutions, and technologies. It also depends on human beings capable of navigating complexity, exercising ethical discernment, relating across differences, and acting with resilience, agency, and purpose.

Compass of Hope begins with the individual, but it does not end there. Its developmental journey moves from reflective awareness and inner agency toward relational intelligence, purpose, contribution, and collective flourishing.

In a time of rapid change and social turbulence, human development is one dimension of a multidimensional response—cultivating the capacities that enable people to participate more wisely and constructively in families, communities, organizations, education, leadership, and society.
